Following the death of Burhan Wani, normal life in Kashmir is still stunned. Shockingly, a PDP MLA has been injured in a mob attack in Kashmir.
Mohammed Khalil Bandh is a PDP MLA from Pulwama. While travelling to Srinagar, Bandh’s vehicle overturned when trying to avoid an attack. He has been seriously injured.
Life in the valley is very rough today as the Jammu-Kashmir National highway has been closed for over a week and there is shortage of essential supplies for the people. Beyond this mobile and internet services have been cut off completely. Another jolt to normalcy was the call back to newspapers. Newspapers have been asked not be published till 19th. Separatist leaders are under house arrest. There is growing discontent and apparent oppression of opinion in the valley.
More than 40 protesters and two police officials have been killed. The Centre has sent 20 companies of paramilitary forces to assist the state Government in combating protest.
Probably, it’s time for the Government to realise that this is not an issue that can be combated. It needs to be resolved from the roots.
We can only hope that politicians and people extend such an initiative.
